PQU's Operating Context

operating context

UTS aims to strengthen its capabilities in management information, organisational performance analysis and integrated strategic planning while continually improving all activities and courses.

PQU helps UTS achieve this goal while navigating the rapidly changing Australian Higher Education sector. These changes include:

  • ongoing and significant reform in the way higher education is funded, specifically for teaching, research and student experience, resulting in tighter operating budgets
  • closer scrutiny of universities by government and agencies such as the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) (opens an external site)
  • students' growing interest in getting value for money in their higher education, and
  • increased local and overseas competition.

PQU operates within the national legislative, policy and review context for higher education, administered by the Australian Government's Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIISRTE).

Our work is also informed by developments in national quality assurance in Australian higher education, such as the institutional audits previously undertaken by the AUQA and the thematic reviews to be undertaken by TEQSA.

PQU works with equivalent units in other Australian Technology Network (ATN) universities, including members of the ATN Planning and Quality Group, to share information about quality processes and performance measures.
